What To Expect

Getting Started at a Glance

Working online means you can access expert support anywhere in Australia while still receiving the same structured, evidence-based care you’d expect in person. I combine Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-focused CBT, and targeted exposure techniques—integrating mindfulness and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills where helpful. Together, we’ll turn insight into action so real-life change happens beyond the screen.

Before Your First Appointment

There are two brief steps before your first appointment:

  1. Quick intake call (10-15min). We clarify your needs, outline how telehealth works, and confirm we’re the right fit.

  2. Simple online forms. You’ll complete a secure intake questionnaire so we can start session 1 with a clear picture.

Session 1 - Building a Shared Understanding

This foundational 50-minute meeting maps out your challenges, goals, and the evidence-based tools we’ll use together:

  • Collaborative agenda. You set the pace and together we guide the structure.

  • Pinpointing the problem. We explore how your concerns impact daily life.

  • Identifying roadblocks. We identify what’s prevented change so far.

  • Goal-setting. We create clear, measurable goals and decide which evidence-based tools suit you best.

Ongoing Sessions

Subsequent sessions translate insight into action, sustaining momentum and fine-tuning strategies as you progress:

  • Structured yet flexible. Each 50-minute video session starts by agreeing on a focus that links back to your goals.

  • Skills in action. Expect live practice of CBT or exposure exercises, mindful grounding, or values-based ACT work - so you leave with tools, not just talk.

  • Regular review. We track progress, troubleshoot barriers, and fine-tune the approach. If something isn’t working, we adapt.

  • Frequency. Weekly sessions are ideal early on. Some clients transition to fortnightly or less frequent as momentum builds.

Between Sessions:
The 167 Other Hours Per Week

Change isn’t limited to our 50-minute sessions - it’s reinforced in the other 167 hours of your week. That's because change happens when new skills meet real-world situations. Together we’ll design practical “home practice” tasks tailored to help you apply session insights to everyday life.
